Fiat which stands for Fabbrica Italiana Automobili Torino was founded 120 years ago in Turin, Italy. It is the largest automobile manufacturer in Italy who also owns Abarth, Lancia and Alfa Romeo. Fiat Automobiles is the largest automobile manufacturer in Italy and currently, FCA is the world's eighth largest automaker.
Fiat India is a fully owned subsidiary of FCA Italy; it was established in 2012 as an independent brand. Fiat brand in India was earlier represented through a joint venture company called Fiat India Automobiles Pvt Ltd., founded in the year 1997 with Tata Motors along with a plant set up through joint investments at Ranjangaon, in Pune district of Maharashtra. Fiat’s multijet diesel engine is the most common diesel engine in the market which is being shared among four manufacturers and more than 18 cars.
Fiat in its early days also used to sell 1100, 124 and Uno in India, manufactured under license by Premier Automobiles Limited. Fiat now has stopped operations of their brand and has now started focusing on developing the American SUV brand Jeep in India.
