The German automaker’s roots can be traced back to the Nazi time under Hitler’s rule. The marque was found by Hitler for the common people of Germany. Volkswagen literally in German means "people's car”. Volkswagen, as of today is on the leading automobile manufacturers who also happen to own Audi, Bentley, Bugatti, Lamborghini, Porsche, SEAT and Skoda.
Volkswagen India was founded in 2007, their first model is the Passat. Volkswagen India has a manufacturing plant in Pune, Maharashtra which can produce up to 200,000 vehicles per year. Along with the manufacturing of Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Vento and the newly launched Volkswagen Ameo, the plant is also shared by Škoda India for manufacturing the Rapid. They also have an engine assembly facility built in 2015 at a cost of 240 crores. The plant reportedly holds production capacity of about 98,000 engines annually.
Volkswagen India currently has 119 showrooms and 147 service centres spanned across 101 cities throughout India. Vehicles sold by the company include Volkswagen Polo, Volkswagen Vento, Volkswagen Ameo, Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Passat. Upcoming cars from Volkswagen include Volkswagen up, T-roc, facelifted Polo and Volkswagen T-cross.
