Mitsubishi Cars In Mumbai
Mitsubishi Motors Corporation is part of the Mitsubishi Keiretsu and it is the sixth largest Automotive Manufacturer in Japan. They launched their first production automobile with the Model A which was a handmade seven seater Sedan. This Sedan was based on the Tipo 3 from Fiat. But the production of the Model A stopped just after building 22 units as it was expensive at that given time.
After the end of the World War 2, Mitsubishi immediately got back to manufacture and produce automobiles. They started with the development of a three wheeler cargo vehicle which was called Mizushima and on the other hand, they even brought in a cooter in production which was known as Silver Pigeon.
Mitsubishi then focused on developing a Sedan for the mass market and with thus they introduced the Mitsubishi 500. After the launch of this Sedan, the Minica kei car was and the Colt 1000 were introduced in the 60’s. Within three years from the introduction of these cars, Mitsubishi saw an output of 75,000 units annually. Hence, with the growth in the automotive sector, the company created a single operational automotive industry which was known as Mitsubishi Motors Corporation. This was company was completely owned by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
Mitsubishi Motors entered the Indian market with the collaboration with Hindustan Motors Limited. With this collaboration, we saw the launch of the Lancer sedan which was powered with the 1.5-litre petrol and 2.0-litre diesel motors. At the given time the Lancer’s were famous especially for the Lancer Evolution models. These four wheel drive sedans rocked the Rallying World with the famous Rally Legend Tommi Makinen behind the wheel. Mitsubishi even launched the Lancer Evolution Tommi Makinen Edition and it was every car enthusiast dream to get their hands over it. But unfortunately, India never got too see the Evolution as it wasn't being introduced in our market.
The Lancer Sedan were the only ones we got back in the day and they were being produced at Hindustan Motors Limited plant in Kolkata. It was only early 2000 that Mitsubishi finally launched the last edition of the Lancer Evolution X in the Indian market. With slow sale numbers and high price tag the Evo X was slowly pulled out of the Indian market and further, the production worldwide was also stopped.
Mitsubishi Cars in India comprised of the Lancer, Cedia, Pajero, Montero and the Outlander. As of now the Mitsubishi car models are only dominated with the SUVs that are on sale in India which include the Pajero Sport, Outlander and the Montero Mitsubishi cars price list starts from Rs.27.65 Lakhs (Ex-showroom) for the Pajero Sport and goes up to Rs.68.55 lakh (Ex-Showroom) for the Montero, whereas the Outlander sits in between with a price tag of Rs.31.84 lakh (Ex-Showroom).
The Japanese car manufacturer is also working on a new model, the Xpander that will be launched in the Indian market which will compete against the MUV’s such as the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga, Toyota Innova Crysta and the Mahindra Marazzo.
Upcoming Mitsubishi Cars to be launched in 2020 - 2021 includes : Mitsubishi Pajero Sport 2019, Mitsubishi Xpander, Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.
