Comparison: Ford Freestyle VS Hyundai i20 Active VS Honda WR-V


Recently, Ford launched the Freestyle in the Indian market. It is crossover hatch but Ford calls its the Compact Urban Vehicle. So in the Indian market, the Ford Freestyle competes with the Hyundai i20 Active and the Honda WR-V. So we bring to you the comparison between the three which can help take a decision on which vehicle to choose from.




Ford Freestyle:

First up the front fascia gets a hexagonal honeycomb type black grille and besides it is a pair of neatly sculpted halogen headlamp unit. The front bumpers get a sporty design and the lower part is blacked out and it also houses a fog lamp unit. Moving towards the side profile, the Freestyle gets a black ORVM’s, black body claddings all over the body and it also rides on new design 15 inch alloy wheels. On top, Ford has offered the Freestyle with roof rails that can withstand weight upto 50kg and customers can also choose between a wrap and sport stripes.


Hyundai i20 Active:


As seen the i20 Active is based on the i20 and it is built on the same platform. In comparison with the normal i20, the i20 Active gets new design grille at the front, also beside the front grille is a pair of swept back headlamp unit with projector headlights. Below it gets a new design fog lamp unit along with body claddings all over to give it a macho look. The Hyundai i20 Active rides on a new design alloy wheels and it also gets roof rails on top. At the rear, the Hyundai has offered this cross hatch with new design tail lamp unit and to give it an off-road look, it also gets a stepney tyre mounted at the rear and also gets tailgate mounted on it.


Honda WR-V:


Aesthetically, the Honda WR-V is based on the Honda Jazz which also borrows design elements from its elder sibling the Honda BR-V. The front fascia looks muscular with the beefed up bonnet and the rectangular shaped swept back headlight unit. At the sides is gets black body claddings all over the body to match up with the muscular look and gives this cross hatch an SUVish look. Like its other rivals in this comparison, the Honda WR-V also gets roof rails.


Interiors and technology:


Ford Freestyle:

Stepping in the Freestyle one can feel that the interiors has been taken influence from its elder sibling the EcoSport. The interiors gets charcoal black theme and the seats are offered with dual tone sienna and black colours. In terms of tech, Ford has offered the Freestyle with a 6.5inch touchscreen infotainment system with Ford’s SYNC3 which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. In addition to this, it comes equipped with automatic headlamps, keyless entry, Ford MyKey, push button start, rain sensing wipers and automatic climate control.


Hyundai i20 Active:


The i20 Active gets dual tone upholstery theme: tangerine orange and aqua blue. In addition to this dual tone scheme it also gets black accents. Hyundai has also given the i20 active with a three spoke sporty steering wheel and a new instrument cluster. Well rest of the interiors are similar to the i120, just that the new instrument cluster on the i20 Active now gets a gear shift indicator and the steering wheel gets audio controls. In terms of technology, Hyundai has equipped the i20 Active with a cooled glove box, reverse parking assist, 2 Din audio system, climate control and driver height adjustable seat.


Honda WR-V:


Inside, the WR-V has been offered with the similar layout of the interiors of the Honda Jazz. These similar elements are the steering wheel, dashboard with the centre console and the dials. Well, talking about the tech, its more or what the same as offered in the Jazz, but the WR-V gets additional sunroof which is also seen in the Honda City.


Safety Features:


Ford Freestyle:

The base trims gets front dual airbags and ABS with EBD as standard safety features, while

the top spec trims come equipped with six airbags along with ABS with EBD, traction control

anti-rollover prevention system, Hill launch assist and Electronic Stability Program.


Hyundai i20 Active:


Hyundai has offered the i20 Active with dual front airbags on the base variant with engine immobilisers and it now gets ABS with EBD as standard across all it trims. The top model gets four airbags and it also gets impact sensing door unlock along with speed sensing door locks.


Honda WR-V:


The WR-V gets front dual airbags as standard right from the base variant. In addition to this other standard safety features are ABS with EBD, engine immobiliser and speed sensing door lock.


Engine and Transmission:


Ford Freestyle:


Under the hood of the Freestyle is a new 1.2 litre Dragon series, three cylinder petrol mill.

With the launch of the Ford Freestyle, Ford has also launched this new petrol engine. This

mill generates 96 bhp of power and 120Nm of twist. As mentioned it also comes powered

with an optional 1.5 litre TDCi four cylinder diesel engine that produces 100 bhp of power

and 215 Nm of torque. Both the petrol and diesel engines are matted with Ford new five

speed manual gearbox which has been sourced from Getrag.


Hyundai i20 Active:


Powering the Hyundai i20 Active is the same engine which powers the normal Hyundai i20. The 1.2 litre Kappa petrol mill produces 82bhp of power and 114Nm of twist, while the 1.4 litre diesel mill generates 89bhp of power and 220Nm of torque. The 1.2 litre kappa petrol mill is coupled with a five speed manual gearbox whereas the diesel mill is matted with a six speed manual gearbox.


Honda WR-V:

The Honda WR-V is also powered with the similar engine that powers the Honda Jazz on which this cross-hatch has been based. The 1.2 litre i-Vtec petrol mill is coupled with a five speed manual transmission and it produces 91 bhp of power. While the 1.5 litre i-Dtec diesel mill is matted with a six speed manual gearbox and it generates 100bhp of power.




Ford Freestyle:


Petrol: Rs 5.09 lakh to Rs 6.94 lakh

Diesel: Rs 6.09 lakh to Rs 7.89 lakh


Hyundai i20 Active:


Petrol: Rs 6.84 lakh to Rs 8.67 lakh

Diesel: Rs 8.99 lakh to Rs 10.05 lakh


Honda WR-V


Petrol: Rs 7.91 lakh to Rs 9.14 lakh

Diesel: Rs 8.95 lakh to Rs 10.09 lakh
