The much-awaited Volvo XC40 has arrived with a compelling price tag of Rs 39.90 lakh. Being the smallest SUV from the Swedish stable, and also the first car to be based on Volvo's new Compact Modular Architecture(CMA), the introductory pricing is no surprise. The XC40 will face competition from the likes of Mercedes GLA, Audi Q3 and the BMW X1.
Initially, the SUV will be only available in a single variant, the R-design. The XC40 is powered by Volvo's familiar 2.0-litre,4-cylinder diesel unit with 190hp and 400Nm of torque along with an eight-speed automatic transmission to all the four wheels. A petrol motor is on the cards for the future depending upon the market preference. The XC40 gets 18-inch wheels, wireless mobile charging,9.0-inch touchscreen, Harman and Kardon 750-watt 12-speaker audio system along with Apple car play and Android auto. Being a Volvo, it also comes with a host of safety features like lane-keeping assist, blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control, pilot assist, emergency braking, ESP, traction control, hill descent control and eight airbags. The SUV is available in three exterior colour options - White, Red and Blue and two interior trim options - Black and Lava Red or all-Black cabin. The Volvo XC40 is expected to be a key player for Volvo, as the brand is aiming to increase its market share by 2020.
