This year’s Indian Auto Expo didn’t matched the expected number of launches and among many other reasons that we each have, one prominent explanation is the upcoming 2016 Union Budget. Auto industry is expecting some kind of miracle from Mr. Jaitley as the automakers are patiently waiting for Feb 29, the day when our Finance Minister will present this year’s budget. But automakers are as always bullish on market which is evident from the fact that there will be spree of launches in the upcoming months. So let’s keep this ‘market talk’ aside and focus on the upcoming new cars to be launched in the month of March 2016.
Maruti Suzuki Brezza
Finally Maruti puts an end to all the speculation by announcing the launch date. The automaker will now launch its first compact SUV on 21st March 2016. Since its a sub-4-meter compact SUV, it will thus lock horns with Ford EcoSport, Mahindra TUV300 and to some extent to bit bigger SUVs Hyundai Creta and Renault Duster. The bookings are yet to open and are expected to open in second week of March. Initially, Brezza will be offered with the 1.3-litre DDiS200 diesel engine which serves duty in Ciaz. The engine is tuned to offer an output of 90PS and peak torque of 200Nm.
Renault Duster Facelift
In the midst of increasing competition in the compact SUV segment, Renault trying to take that piece which everyone is looking for, will introduce the facelift model of Duster. The French automaker has already showcased the updated model at 2016 Indian Auto Expo which now flaunts an aggressive front profile, new front bumpers, redesigned grille, but all these updates are cosmetic in nature. The most important upgrade in Duster facelift is the 6-speed AMT gearbox which in Renault’s fancy language is Easy-R AMT. Mechanically, Duster will remain unchanged and will be coming with 1.6-litre petrol and 1.5-litre diesel powertrains.
Honda Amaze Facelift
Joining launch bandwagon is Honda Amaze. The Japanese carmaker will launch the Amaze facelift on March 3rd. The facelifted model now features bold chrome slat grille which is bit similar to that of City, redesigned front bumpers, air dams and complete new interior design with all new dashboard inspired from Mobilio and upcoming BR-V.
However, because of the Zika virus outbreak in many countries, Tata Motors decided to re-brand its small car Zica and is now known as Tiago. This new hatch looks promising and is different from other Tata Motors cars. It will be placed below the Bolt hatchback in the price vicinity of Rs 3 to 5 lac. Tata Motors might also launch Hexa SUV by the month end.
