Hyundai will be launching the new Santro (codenamed: AH2) on October 23rd. The brand recently released a design sketch of the car which revealed a tall design language which is reminiscent of the old Santro. The car was also spotted multiple times wearing different camouflages and colors in different parts of the country.

The original Santro, even though being a compact hatchback was tall and the dimensions were more polarized towards the likes of a premium hatchback. The AH2, according to the spy shots and reports will also be a tall hatchback with a spacious cabin.

 

  1. Hyundai India hasn’t confirmed the official name for the AH2, although we expect it to be called the Santro, the brand is also did conduct a marketing campaign to find a suitable name for the car.

  2. The Santro will be the first car from Hyundai in India to use an AMT transmission. Hyundai is planning a 5-speed AMT transmission for the car along with a manual gearbox.

  3. A design sketch of the car was released recently which indicates a tall and contemporary looking hatchback with typical Hyundai design cues and a sleek roofline. The taillamps seems to be mounted high flanking the rear windshield.


 

  1. The Santro will be powered with a 1.1-litre petrol four-cylinder engine which will be based on the existing unit from the I10, with changes to make it comply with the new regulations.

  2. The spy shots insinuate that the car will be offered with a dual-tone interior comprising of beige and black combination. The new Hyundai Santro will come with a three-spoke steering wheel with audio mounted controls. It might also get a touchscreen system and a dash mounted gear lever.

  3. The Santro will replace the Eon to become the cheapest car from Hyundai. It will also go up against the Tata Tiago, Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Wagon R, and the Alto K10.

  4. Dual airbags will be standard across the range as the safety norms are getting tight. It will also be equipped with rear parking sensors and ABS.

  5. Y K Koo, MD & CEO, Hyundai Motor India Ltd, hinted that the new Santro will be wider and bigger than the earlier version. Dimensions of the New Santro will be similar to the i10 which puts it ahead of the competition.

  6. Being a Hyundai, the car is expected be packed with features, some class first features might debut with the new Santro. A touchscreen infotainment system and steering mounted audio controls might be offered.

The official launch will happen of October 23rd, and prices will be in the range of Rs 2.5 lakh to Rs 4.5 lakh.
