Some years ago, Hyundai discontinued the production of its iconic hatchback the Santro in the Indian market. This hatchback was launched back to compete head on with the Maruti Suzuki WagonR and also meet the demand of the masses.
As compared to its rival, the WagonR is still in production and is due to offer a new generation update. In addition to this, Hyundai is also working on the launch of the Santro. This time the Hyundai Santro has been spied testing and we get a sneak peak on the interiors and exteriors of this upcoming hatchback. This test module was spotted testing in Ooty in the state of Tamil Nadu.
The cars is heavily covered with camouflage but we can notice that the upcoming Hyundai Santro gets large headlamp units, a fog lamp setup which is placed right under it and the design also resembles somewhat similar than the Grand i10. It also looks like Hyundai has equipped this hatchback with electric ORVMs.This entry level hatch was spotted running on steel wheels.
According to the spy shots we get to know that Hyundai will be offering beige and black interior scheme and it could be the primary colour scheme. It is being offered with a three spoke steering wheel which also get steering mounted audio controls and coming towards the sears it gets fixed headrests which was found in the previous gen Grand i10. Overall the interiors of the upcoming Santro is similar to the one of the pre-facelift model of the Grand i10. The gear lever is dashboard mounted and the instrument cluster and AC vents gets some chrome inserts. It is expected that Hyundai will also equip this hatchback with a touchscreen infotainment system.
Powering the upcoming Santo could be three cylinder, 1.0 litre petrol mill and it is mostly like to get a CNG setup along with it. The engine will be mated with a manual transmissions but it also expected that Hyundai will add an AMT transmission sooner or later.
As of now, there is no clarity if Hyundai will name this hatchback as Santro, we could also expect a name change. Once launched, this will be an entry level hatchback for Hyundai which will sit under the Grand i10. The launch is expected to happen somewhere around the festive season of Diwali and once launched it will compete head on with the Maruti Suzuki WagonR and the Tata Tiago.
