Mahindra is the only manufacturer in India which makes affordable electric cars. The e2o plus is the cheapest electric car that you can lay your hands on in India followed by the eVerito which is India’s first all-electric sedan. Mahindra electric also makes the eSupro and the eAlfa Mini which are both all-electric commercial vehicles.
Mahindra electric confirmed that they will be launching another all-electric product by the FY 2019-20. Mahindra showcased the eKUV100 at the 2018 Indian Auto Expo and chances are very high that the proposed electric car will be the same. Pawan Goenka, Managing Director, M&M confirmed that the new electric SUV will be launched during 2019-2020 financial year, but no further details were revealed. The eKUV100 will be the first electric SUV in India when launched. Mahindra’s spokesperson has also confirmed that the eKUV100 will be using a new powertrain setup which is different from the one in the e2o. The new powertrain should pack more range and performance to support the compact SUV’s dimensions. The exterior design is very similar to the standard KUV100, but the car will feature tech like smartphone connectivity, remote diagnostics, cabin pre-cooling and real-time location tracking.
Many other manufacturers are also planning to join the EV bandwagon soon with competitive products. Hyundai, Maruti, and Tata is ahead of the others with product lineup planned for the coming years.
