New cars launched in the month of April 2019

The month of April for the Indian automotive industry hasn’t been much exciting. This could be because many of the manufacturers are gearing up for some major car launches in the coming festive season.

But the month wasn’t disappointing either, as we now see a new addition of a segment in the Indian automotive scene, also there have been some major upgrades in many fast-selling models. So let’s have a look at some of the new cars launched in the month of April.

The German car manufacturer, BMW has launched its sporty Z4 Roadster in the Indian market at a starting price of Rs 64.90 lakh (Ex-Showroom, India). The Z4 Roadster has been introduced in two engine options, sDrive20i and the M40i (BMW’s M Performance variant).

BMW is retailing the Z4 Roadster in all its dealerships across the nation and this sports car is being sold as a CBU unit (Completely Built Unit).

Aesthetically, BMW has offered the Z4 Roadster with a long bonnet, a classic soft top with short overhangs. According to BMW, the soft top opens electrically in just 10 seconds. On the front, this convertible gets a mesh grille and vertically stacked LED headlight units.

In addition to the, it also comes with large aerodynamic air vents on the front wheel arches which offer the Z4 with a more sporty appeal. Moving towards the rear end, we can notice that the Z4 Roadster gets slim LED tail light units also with a distinctive spoiler, diffuser and exhaust tailpipes.

As we step into the cabin of the Z4 Roadster, we get to see that this convertible now gets an increased storage space behind the seats, it also comes equipped with driver seat memory functions, large door pockets and large cup holders under the centre armrest.

On the other hand, the M40i trim level gets a leather and Alcantara interior finish along with blue contrast stitching and blue piping all over the cabin. The M sports model also gets additional setting and adjustments for the seats and it also comes with a sporty M leather steering wheel.

Let’s pop up the hood and have a look at what the Z4 Roadster has to offer us. The sDrive20i trim is powered with a 2.0-litre, inline four, four-cylinder petrol. This unit can produce 194 bhp of power and 320Nm of torque and in terms of performance, this engine helps the Z4 Roadster to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in 6.6 seconds.

On the other hand, the M40i which is BMW’s M Performance package gets a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder petrol engine that churns out a whopping 335 bhp of power and 500Nm of twist. The BMW Z4 Roadster M40i can sprint from a standstill to 100 kmph in just 4.5 seconds. Both the petrol engines are coupled with an eight-speed Steptronic Sports Transmission.

In terms of safety, BMW has equipped the new Z4 Roadster with front and side airbags, ABS, brake assist, dynamic stability control with cornering brake control, side-impact protection, and crash sensor. With the launch of the new Z4 Roadster from BMW, it competes for head-on with its rivals such as the Audi A5 Cabriolet, Mercedes SLC and the Porsche 718 in the Indian market.

As Bajaj launches the Qute in the Indian market, it creates history by starting a new segment in the Indian automotive scene. The Qute from Bajaj is a Quadricycle and it has been finally launched in India at starting price of Rs 2.48 lakh. Bajaj has launched the Qute with a petrol variant and CNG-Commercial variants as well that has been priced at Rs 2.78 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Maharashtra).

In terms of dimensions, the Bajaj Qute is very compact in design. This quadricycle measures 2,752mm in length, it's wide by 1,312mm, it’s all by tall 1,652mm and it gets a wheelbase of 1,925mm. Coming to the weight of the Qute, it just measures 425kgs. It also gets a boot at the front which can carry luggage up to 20kgs and one can even fit a carrier on the roof which can withstand a total weight of 40kgs.

But if we compare the Bajaj Qute with other entry-level cars from various manufacturers, it misses out on basic creature comfort features like an air-conditioner. On the other hand, it also misses out some safety features as wheel and it also doesn’t disc brakes.

Powering the Bajaj Qute is a 216cc, single cylinder, liquid cooled DTSi petrol mill and it is coupled with a five-speed sequential manual gearbox. This engine can generate 13bhp of power at 5,500 rpm and 18.9Nm of a twist at 4,000 rpm.

On the other hand, the CNG equipped model produces 11bhp of power at 5,500 rpm and 16.1 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. As per Bajaj, the Qute can hit a maxed out top speed of 70 kmph and with this, it also delivers a fuel economy of 35 km on a litre of fuel (petrol) and 43 kilometres on a KG of gas (CNG).

Back in November 2018,  the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) had added the quadricycles segment into the ‘non-transport’ category of vehicles. But now, one can register and use the Qute as a private or a commercial vehicle.

As of now, in the Indian automotive market, it doesn't have direct competition. As of now, Bajaj has introduced the Qute only in six states in India, slowly it will also be launched in other states as well.

The Indian car manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki has launched the last iteration of the Alto. This latest model has been offered with a price tag starting from Rs 2.93 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).

Maruti Suzuki has offered the 2019 Alto in three different variants and under the hood of this entry-level hatchback is now a BS-VI compliant engine. In addition to this, the 2019 Alto also comes equipped with new safety features, so let’s have a look at all these details, shall we?

In terms of design and aesthetics, Maruti Suzuki has offered the new Alto with a newly designed front grille, also the headlight unit and the front bumpers have also been redesigned and revised.

The new Alto now comes available with six different paint schemes to choose from- Uptown Red, Superior White, Silky Silver, Granite Grey, Mojito Green, and Cerulean Blue. Moving towards the cabin, the 2019 Alto noe gets a dual tone finish and the air conducts have also been redesigned.

In addition to this, the speedometer is now stylish as compared to the one on the previous model. Having a look at the technology and features, Maruti Suzuki has now equipped the latest iteration of the Alto with a Smart Play Dock that has Bluetooth compatibility and keyless entry.

Under the hood of the 2019 Maruti Suzuki Alto is a 796cc, three cylinders, petrol engine that can generate 48 bhp of power and 69Nm of twist.

This petrol mill is now BS-VI Compliant owing to the changes done to the hardware, software and the exhaust system. According to the Indian car manufacturer, this hatchback can deliver a fuel efficiency of 22.05 kilometres on a litre a fuel.

With the launch of the new edition of the Alto, this hatchback also comes updated with a new set of safety features to meet the strict safety norms.

These features include driver side airbag, speed alert system, seat belt reminder system for both driver and front passenger, reverse parking sensors, ABS and EBD as standard across all the trim levels. In addition to this, the 2019 Alto also compiles with the upcoming crash test norms and even the pedestrian safety regulations.

What makes the new Alto even reliable is that it now meets the  ‘End of Life Vehicles’ (ELV) obligations, i.e the Alto is now 95 per cent recoverable and 85 per cent recyclable.

With the launch of the latest Alto in the Indian market, Maruti Suzuki has pulled its sleeve up in the entry-level segment. Hence now the 2019 Alto gives a tough competition for its rivals like Renault Kwid, Hyundai Santro and the Datsun Go.

The German Automotive Manufacturer has taken a step ahead by updating its compact sedan lineup for the Indian market. Volkswagen has now launched the Corporate Edition for the Ameo and it has been priced at a starting price of Rs 6.69 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi).

The Ameo Corporate Edition is available for both the petrol and diesel trim levels. Volkswagen has specially launched this edition for both corporate employees and budding entrepreneurs.

The Ameo Corporate Edition has been based on its Highline Plus trim level. But if we compare the price tag of the Corporate Edition with the regular Highline Plus model, the petrol variant is cheaper by Rs 1.16 lakh whereas the diesel variant is cheaper by Rs 1.11 lakh. With this, Ameo Corporate Edition now sits between the Comfortline and Highline Plus trim levels.

Volkswagen has equipped this new edition Ameo with features such as rain sensing wipers, cruise control for those long highway runs, climate control for utmost comfort, static cornering lights, and 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment that is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and MirrorLink.

Although the Ameo Corporate Edition comes with both the petrol and diesel engine options, both of the powerhouses will only be coupled with a five-speed manual transmission.

The petrol model will be powered with a 1.0 litre, three-cylinder MPI unit that churns out 76 bhp of power and 95Nm of torque. On the other hand, the diesel model is powered with a 1.5-litre turbocharged unit that put out 110 bhp of power and 250Nm of twist.
