Next Gen VW Tiguan Highlights:
- The upcoming Tiguan is being offered with a facelift along with many design updates on the exterior and features upgrades inside the cabin.
- Volkswagen has also revealed a sportier Tiguan R variant, that will be powered with ES288 2.0 litre turbo petrol mill with a 7-speed DSG gearbox.
- India-spec model expected to launch next year with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine and the SUV will be locally assembled.
Volkswagen has revealed the first set of pictures of the New Tiguan and with this, the German automotive giant has also unveiled a sportier R-Line variant as well. The Tiguan is one of Volkswagen’s most popular SUV globally since it was first unveiled back in 2007. With some changes in all these years, the upcoming model will be offered with facelift along with upgrades to the features as well.
Exterior - Design and Aesthetics:
The upcoming Tiguan is being inspired by the 8th Gen VW Golf and will be offered with sharper styling elements as seen in the pictures. At the front, this SUV will get a pair of all-new LED headlamp unit that merges well with the redesigned front grille. Also, the front bumper gets a new design and it will now accommodate bigger air intakes giving the SUV a much sportier look.
Moving to the side profile, you will see that the Tiguan facelift will run on newly designed alloy wheels and it also gets sharp creases that run all over the body. At the rear, along with the tail-lights even the bumpers have been revamped and it will be holding the ‘TIGUAN’ badge at the centre of the tailgate.
Taking a step into the cabin, the feature that will catch your eye is the latest infotainment unit and the new instrument cluster, thus bringing the upcoming Tiguan inline with the newer models from the manufacturer. The latest infotainment unit boasts of a larger touchscreen display and it will be compatible with the wireless Apple CarPlay that will be offered alongside Volkswagen’s We Connect System.
In addition this, the German car manufacturer will be featuring two illuminated USB-C ports which will be placed at the centre console and it will get new multi-colour ambient lighting options. Across the different variants, this SUV will be offering touch-sensitive controls and sliders to replace physical buttons and an optional 10 speaker, 480W Harman Kardon sound system.
The Indian spec model will most likely be powered with the 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol mill that produces 150 bhp of power. Globally, Volkswagen is planning to power the New Tiguan with a 2.0 litre TDI diesel engine that is capable of churning out 150 bhp of power. At a later stage, a new hybrid variant is planned to be launched. But the diesel engine option will not make into the Indian market.
The VW Tiguan R:
With the New Tiguan revealed, Volkswagen also unveiled a much sportier Tiguan R. This model will get a fourth-gen EA288 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine and it will be mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox. In addition to this, the Tiguan R will also feature a torque-vectoring system that will allow you to vary the drive between the front and rear axles, also onto the left and right rear wheels.
What about the Indian-spec model?
Volkswagen replaced the standard Tiguan with the 7-seat Tiguan AllSpace earlier this year. But a 5-seat version of the Tiguan was also being reported to be launched. Hence it will surely make a comeback in the Indian market with the facelift. The Indian spec model will share the same 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol mill as seen under the hood of the Skoda Karoq and it will only be offered with front-wheel drive setup.
We at MyNewCar are expecting that Volkswagen will be launching the New Tiguan somewhere around 2021 in the Indian market. Also, an aggressive pricing strategy is expected with the 5-seater SUV to be launched between the Rs 23 lakh to Rs 26 lakh EX-Showroom range.
