Honda has launched the Civic with a diesel BS6 engine. The car-maker has had the BS6 petrol variant on sale since March but now the diesel trim will expand the range.
As we have reported earlier the new Honda Civic diesel gets a 1.6L i-DTEC Diesel Turbo engine which delivers 120 bhp and 300Nm. Being diesel the efficiency is also important and the Civic diesel BS6 delivers 23.9 kmpl. However the new Civic diesel continues to get a 6-speed manual and no automatic.
In terms of trim options the new Civic diesel is available with the VX and ZX. In terms of pricing the new Civic diesel BS6 is retailed at Rs 20.7 lakh for the VX MT while the ZX MT is priced at Rs 22.3 lakh.
The Civic was launched around March 2019 and India has gotten the latest 10th generation model while we missed out on the earlier generation models. The Civic was launched with both diesel and petrol models from the start but the petrol is only available with an automatic CVT and the diesel gets only a manual.
The rival for the new Honda Civic diesel comes in the form of the Hyundai Elantra diesel. The Elantra diesel comes with a BS6 1.5L diesel which makes 113 bhp and 250Nm. Thus it makes less power and torque than the Civic but unlike the Civic you do get a choice of an automatic 6-speed along with a manual gearbox. Other rivals have been discontinued due to low sales while the only new competition we can expect is the arrival of the new Skoda Octavia early next year with a petrol model as the VW group which owns Skoda has stopped sale of diesel engines for now in India.
