Nissan India has done a surprise move by announcing the Kicks with a turbo-petrol. Till now the Kicks had a 1.5 liter petrol and diesel engine but this brings the Kicks back into the segment top slots. Simply put the new turbo petrol gives the Kicks headline grabbing performance figures. The Kicks will get a 1.3l turbo petrol with 154 bhp and 256Nm. Those are big power figures and while we will do a comparison soon, this makes the Kicks the most powerful midsize petrol SUV.
The Kicks turbo petrol also gets a CVT automatic as standard. The X-tronic CVT has an eight-step M mode which provides a manual like shifting experience. What is also more interesting is that the 1.3l turbo engine in the Kicks has a technology which is shared with the GT-R supercar. As it features the cylinder coating technology- something also there on the Nissan supercar.
It also remains to be seen what other changes the Kicks will come with but we can expect a facelift with a small tweak plus maybe more features. The Kicks turbo petrol will be the flagship of the range while the 1.5l petrol may remain to be standard with the manual gearbox.
This new engine will certainly give the Nissan Kicks added strength in fighting this highly competitive midsize SUV space as having more power over rivals is certainly something which enthusiasts will like. Nissan will launch the Kicks turbo petrol soon post lockdown.
