Skoda Kushaq vs VW Taigun - Which one you should wait for?
Skoda Kushaq vs VW Taigun - SUV's Comparison
There are two new SUVs on the horizon and both are aimed straight at the Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos amongst others. The above 4m SUV segment is currently the hottest and the most appealing while many others now want a slice of that pie. VW group including Skoda and Volkswagen in India have been developing their made for India SUV for some time and the project has been known as the MQB A0 IN. This project will get us two new SUVs namely the Volkswagen Taigun and the Skoda Kushaq. Both these SUVs will come around the same time so what are the differences between them? Let us see what we can find out.
Dimensions and Styling
The Kushaq and the Taigun are nearly the same length as while production spec Taigun has not been revealed yet the final length of the Taigun production model would match with the Kushaq at 4.2m. That is interesting since both the Kushaq and the Taigun would be similar in size but smaller than the Seltos plus the Creta. Also the Taigun has a ground clearance of 188mm which is same with the Kushaq plus again lower than the Creta/Seltos. The change between the Kushaq and Taigun is the designing and styling. Both the Kushaq and the Taigun look different. The Taigun has a smaller grille and a typical VW shaped headlamp while the lower part of the bumper is bigger. There is cladding of course but there is more black detailing when compared to the Kushaq plus the Taigun gets a light bar at the rear.
Interior and Features
Both the Kushaq and the Taigun have the same wheelbase at 2651mm. That is longer than the Creta and Seltos. That translates to good space inside. We expect both the Kushaq and the Taigun to have the same amount of space. The change would be in the interior design. The Taigun would have a youthful cabin with colored accents and a lot of sporty details. The touch screen would be the same size though. In terms of features the Taigun and Kushaq would get connected tech, sunroof, steering controls, rear view camera, cruise control along with ventilated seats. The change would be that the Taigun would get digital dials against the analogue ones of the Kushaq.
Again both the Kushaq and the Taigun would have the same engines with only a petrol line-up. There is a 1.0 TSI petrol which would have a 6-speed manual plus 6-speed automatic. The 1.5 TSI in both would have a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DSG automatic. Both SUVs would get paddle shifters. In terms of driving dynamics it remains to be seen who both these two are tuned.
Typical Volkswagen is the slightly premium brand in terms of pricing while the Skoda would be expected to be the slightly cheaper car. The Kushaq would then be a bit cheaper when compared to the Taigun with a lower starting price. Hence it really depends on which SUV you like the look of and the brand of course.
