Maruti-Suzuki Ertiga, Brezza, Ciaz BS6 Diesel Launch Date

Maruti has been one of the biggest names to have stopped offering diesel cars with the BS6 norms coming in. That was a surprise to many when the decision was announced since Maruti was hugely successful with the 1.3l diesel being given in the Vitara Brezza to Swift and nearly all cars. Thus resorting to petrol was a big move. However Maruti has been advertising how diesel cars are not needed and its petrol cars with mild hybrids are an alternative. Thus having withdrawn all diesel cars, some of its sales have fallen but overall Maruti still retains the leadership in the small cars while the Brezza is also nearly as popular as the rivals despite no diesel. However it is quite clear that diesel still has demand especially with Hyundai and Kia plus many offering one. So indeed not having a diesel is a disadvantage which Maruti needs to solve sooner rather than later. The good news is that diesel BS6 Maruti cars are indeed coming even if they are still some time away.
New Maruti Suzuki Cars Diesel Launch
The launch date for diesel BS6 Maruti cars could be as soon as mid next year as this would be the next big development after the launch of the XL5 and the new Celerio. Maruti has been working to develop its new 1.5l diesel to meet BS6 standards with no drop in power or efficiency. Thus the BS6 diesel engine will make the same power as it did in the BS4 avatar with 94 bhp and 225nm.
What models would get BS6 diesel?
Maruti would only give its premium range the BS6 diesel engines when it launches them. So hatchbacks like the Baleno or the Swift will not get the BS6 diesel unit. Instead the Ertiga and Vitara Brezza will get it from the Arena dealerships while from the Nexa sides the XL6, S-Cross and Ciaz will get them. Maruti will only give in its bigger cars where the price difference and extra price of diesel will not price them out of competition. Also diesel small cars have gone down while diesel demand is there in the MPV or compact SUV space where also more competitors offer a diesel hence Maruti will also offer in those segments.
How much more expensive would be the BS6 diesel engines?
Typically diesel engined cars are around a lakh more expensive over their petrol versions. But carmakers like Hyundai or many others in an attempt to push diesel are offering them at the same as the top-end petrol trims. However in case of the Maruti BS6 diesels the price would rise and we can expect a lakh more over the petrol engines. Plus there would only be a manual gearbox which would be offered if and when Maruti brings BS6 diesel cars.
