New Thar to Get Convertible Hard-top, Grill & Colour in 2021
New Mahindra Thar to Get Convertible Hard-top, 7-Slot Grill & Colour Option in 2021 - Update & July Launch?
Mahindra has struck gold with the new Thar and currently it has massive demand with a huge waiting list stretching upto 9 months. However that has not stopped Mahindra in already deciding the next course of action for the Thar based on customer feedback. We all know the big launch of the 5-door version (rumoured to be called New Armada) by the end of this year, but before that we could have the Thar with a convertible hard-top being launched in Q3/2021 ! Recently the new Thar was spied testing with a hard-top variant indicating a possibility of a launch soon. Till now the new Thar is available with only a fixed hard top or a convertible soft top. However this new version will add the convertible hard top to the range.
One of the criticisms of the new That was the styling of the new front grill as compared to the old Thar. Based on the spy shots of new Thar test mule with a convertible hard-top, We expect Mahindra to change the front grill design of 2021 Thar to a new 7 slot grill design similar to the ones already sold as an aftermarket accessory
Along with that the 2021 Thar could also be launched with new colour options including white and silver. These new colours would certainly make the Thar even more popular.
Currently you have two choices regarding the roof of your Thar and also six colour options. The inclusion of new colours would add to the desirability of the Thar also. The new variant will continue to be available with the AX and LX variants while the engine options would include the 2.0 turbo petrol and the 2.2l diesel while automatic plus manual versions would continue to be available.
A convertible hard top would make the Thar more practical and convenient plus will push more customers to go for the convertible version as the soft top obviously has a noisy cabin which a hard top will fix. We expect a price increase of around 20k for the hard top convertible variant over the soft top when it is launched though. Mahindra recently also increased the prices for the Thar but that has not affected demand as it still continues to have way more demand than supply hence many cities have waiting list of as much as 8-9 months! Mahindra also recently discontinued the base variant of the Thar due to the side facing rear seats as that would have affected its GNCAP safety rating while currently the Thar has an impressive 4 star safety rating.
