Skoda have started production of the Kushaq in India and the first units have rolled from the production line at the at the Pune plant in Chakan. Skoda will start customer deliveries from July. The Kushaq is based on the MQB-A0-IN platform and it has been localized heavily for India. To get the localization levels up to 95 per cent, Skoda had set up a new MQB- A0-IN production line at its Pune plant. A big part of the development has been carried out at the new technology centre, which opened in Pune in January 2019.
The launch will take place later this month and the Kushaq is expected to be priced aggressively too indicating the strategy by Skoda to capture market share. The Kushaq will come with two turbocharged petrol engine namely the 1.0 TSI which will get a manual and a torque converter automatic to a bigger 1.5 TSI which will get a DSG automatic and also a manual. The SUV is expected to be feature loaded and come with various features including a sunroof and more. There would also be connected car technology on offer. We expect pricing to be in the region of Rs 10-16 lakh for the top-end model. Skoda will also launch the new Octavia later this month. The Kushaq will have a lot of rivals including its own sibling the Volkswagen Taigun which will launch at a later date than the Kushaq during the festive season.
