The upcoming New Tata HBX Hornbill micro-SUV will be based on the Advanced Modular Platform (AMP) like Tata Altroz and will have a high level of commonality with the premium hatchback. The HBX micro-SUV will be positioned below the Tata Nexon and is expected to shake up the Rs 6 to 10 lakh price segment on its launch in Oct,2020. The HBX would give car-buyers an option of having a SUV at the price of a hatchback. New Tata HBX SUV Exterior Looks
The production version of the Tata HBX Hornbill will be over 90% similar to the concept. The concept car features a rugged and bold styling. It gets a boxy design that suits it character quite well. It features a Nexon facelift like front grille and sleeker split headlamps like the Harrier.The rear taillamps look quite unique and attractive with LED elements. The micro-SUV from Tata will get 15-inch alloy wheels, massive faux skid plate at the front and the rear. The squared wheel arches and sharp crease lines on the side body give the car a muscular stance. The sub-compact SUV on display was showcased with an off-road package that includes off-road tyres and roof rail.
New Tata HBX SUV Dimensions
The HBX Hornbill concept measures 3,840mm in length and 1,635mm in height. The HBX has a wheelbase of 2,450mm. The Tata micro-SUV is expected to offer a ground clearance of around 180 mm.

The New Tata HBX SUV is likely to be available in 5-6 eye catching monotone/dual tone colours and an unique signature shade for the top variant. Based on the HBX Hornbill concept SUV, the exclusive signature colour could be Grey/Silver with Copper/Orange roof.
New Tata HBX SUV Engine & Transmission - Specification
The new HBX Hornbill micro-SUV will come only with a petrol engine. The HBX will share the Tata Tiago and Altroz's 1.2 litre 3 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol BS6 Revotron engine that produces 86 PS and 113 Nm of peak torque. Transmission option would include 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT (Automated Manual Transmission). The HBX Hornbill micro-SUV will not only be pocket friendly to buy, but also to drive with an expected mileage of 19 kmpl under test condition for both manual and automatic transmission. Tata will also introduce an all-electric version of the HBX by 2022 and will be powered by Tata’s Ziptron EV technology that was launched in Nexon EV.

The micro SUV will come with best in class connectivity features. The HBX is likely to share a lot of the features with Tata Tiago and Altroz. The comfort and technology features of Tata HBX Hornbill micro-SUV is likely to include 7 inch floating touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Car play, steering mounted controls, compass in the dashboard, automatically folding ORVMs, automatic climate control, rear power outlet, rear AC vents, rain sensing wipers, auto headlamps, semi-digital instrument cluster and sound system with 4 speakers, rear seat-adjustable headrests, push-button start-stop, remote keyless entry and wearable key.

When it comes to safety, the HBX Hornbill SUV will be a safe SUV like other Tata cars e.g Altroz and Nexon which scored a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP tests. It will likely get dual front airbags, ABS, EBD ( Electronic Brake Distribution), CSC (Corner Stability Control) and rear parking sensors as standard

Tata would wants the HBX Hornbilll sub-compact SUV to be successful at all costs and will price it very aggressively between the Tata Tiago and Tata Nexon. By that we mean this micro-SUV from Tata would not only be signifiantly cheaper than compact SUVs but will compete with popular hatchback from Maruti and Hyundai and can start at around Rs 5.5 lakh for the base variant with top automatic variant to be priced at Rs 8 lakhs (ex-showroom)
The new Tata HBX Hornbill is likely to be offered in 4 petrol variants – XE, XT, XZ, XZ+ with the mid trim and top trim to be available with an option of automatic transmission - XTA and XZA+
New Tata HBX SUV Launch Date, Booking
Due to the COVID-19 situation,Tata will be launching the HBX Hornbill sub-compact SUV in the middle of the festival period somewhere in Oct, 2020.The pre-bookings to reserve the HBX Hornbill before launch is expected to start by the end of September 2020.
