Connected cars have become the newest trend in the automobile industry. With voice recognition, on-board air purifier, remote start access and various smart-phone based features, the connected cars are the new 'smart' cars.
Below is a compiled list of all the tech-oriented cars for 2020.
1. KIA Seltos:
One of the top-selling SUVs, the KIA Seltos comes packed with the newest tech on offer. The car receives an 8-inch HUD display along with 10.25-inch HD touchscreen with navigation and UVO connectivity. The app comes with a complimentary 3-year subscription and has over 50+ smart features that include sections like, navigation, remote control, safety and security, convenience, vehicle management and voice command. The UVO app even comes with smartwatch connectivity on Android, IOS and Tizen.
The interior of the car also includes ambient lighting, an air purifier, ventilated front seats, power-adjustable driver seat, 7-inch multi-information display and a Bose sound system with eight speakers. The exterior features also include a panoramic sunroof, LED DRLs, LED tail lamps and alloy wheels.
2. New Honda City:
Honda city has always been one of the most popular sedans in the Indian automobile market. Honda launched the 5th generation Honda City just a few days ago. What makes the New City ‘smart’ is the New Honda Connected Car Technology. It receives the updated version of Honda’s connect tech that was initially launched in 2015. The 2020 Honda City also comes with Alexa voice command and has become the first Alexa enabled car in India. The updated features include sections like service and maintenance record, remote control, navigation, airbag deployment, vehicle security alerts and much more.
Apart from the connectivity, the car also receives features like LED automatic headlamps and tail-lamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, sunroof, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and Weblink, engine start/stop button, automatic climate control and steering wheel integrated controls with tilt and telescopic adjust.
3. MG Hector:
The automobile brand Morris Garages introduced themselves in India with its flagship model MG Hector, and the car has not lost its popularity since then. The 5-seater SUV receives ‘I-Smart’ connect tech that lets you connect with your car remotely. It’s the first car to receive machine to machine embedded SIM which is IPV6 ready for 5G. The new updated version comes with 50+ connect car features from remote control, voice command to navigation. The car also receives over the air updates for its applications and can update anywhere at any time. The new updated Hector also receives new features that include a grey colour theme for the infotainment screen, added voice command for music, chit-chat feature and custom welcome message feature.
MG is one of the few automobile brands to offer a hybrid technology for its powertrain. Its 1.5-litre petrol engine comes with a 48V mild-hybrid system that comes mated to a 6-speed manual. Apart from these, the MG Hector offers a variety of features including, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and safety features like airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, ISOFIX and much more.
4. MG ZS EV:
The ZS EV is the first electric SUV by MG for the Indian market. The car is powered by a 44.5kWh lithium-ion battery producing 143PS and 353Nm. The car gives a claimed mileage of 340km on a single charge. The kinetic energy converter in MG also recovers and stores a moving vehicle’s kinetic energy in the battery.
The feature list include an AC unit with PM 2.5 filter, a sunroof, 6 airbags, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment, auto headlamps, LED DRLs, heated ORVMs, push button start/stop alloy wheels, reverse parking camera and sensors, tyre pressure monitoring system, hill descent control, cruise control and drive modes: eco, sports, and normal. The connected car uses MG’s ‘I-Smart’ EV 2.0 tech. The car comes with 50+ connected features along with voice recognition that recognises 100+ voice commands.
The car can also be connected to the external WiFi. The 50+ features include remote control, voice command to navigation along with EV related features like displaying charge in real time, displaying the charging current & voltage and remaining charging time, CO2 saved, nearest charging station suggestions at the location where the range ends etc. The I-Smart EV 2.0 lets also comes with a premium subscription of Gaana that lets you download and store upto 100 songs from on your head unit.
5. Hyundai Venue:
Hyundai Venue was the first ever connected car in India. The 2020 Hyundai Venue was one of the most awaited cars this year. The 5-seater SUV comes with Hyundai’s Bluelink Connect Technology that receives internet connectivity via an eSIM from Vodafone Idea. To make the deal sweeter Hyundai also offers its very own 8-inch AVNT (Audio Video Navigation Telematics) infotainment system. The integrated infotainment system features augmented reality-based navigation that shows routes as a real-time view of the road. The system also includes an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS).
The car also receives features like auto climate control, rear AC vents, cruise control, push-button start/stop, multi-function steering, sunroof, along with dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat anchors. The higher variants also receive an air purifier with HEPA filter, wireless phone charger and eco coating tech that keeps the air conditioning system intact for a longer duration.
6. Hyundai Creta:
The Creta offers a variety of features from LED headlamps and tail lamps, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging, power-adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, 7-inch semi-digital instrument cluster, six airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors and much more. The car also has 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with Bluelink Connect Tech with 50+ features and voice command technology. The voice command features voice assist dialling, voice navigation control and voice recognition for general information like date, time and weather. The Bluelink safety features also include, auto crash notification, emergency and road side assistance and panic notification. Apart from these, the feature list also includes categories like, security, vehicle health monitoring and remote control commands for entertainment and convenience.
7. ​​​​​​​Tata Nexon EV:
The car is one of the few electric vehicles currently available in India. The new Nexon EV gets Tata’s Ziptron EV technology that features a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery for the car with a claimed mileage range of 312km. The IP67 waterproof battery pack receives an 8-year standard warranty and AIS-048 safety standards that provide overcharge, shock and short-circuit protection. The powertrain produces 129PS power and 245Nm.
Apart from the electric powertrain, the Nexon EV also receives Tata’s connected car technology. The app zConnect offers over 35+ features which include sections like remote commands, vehicle health monitoring, safety & security, driving and trip analytics and location-based services. Apart from these, Tata Nexon EV has built on 5-star crash test rated platform. The safety features also include dual airbags, ABS with EBD along with hill assist and stability control. The EV also receives features like semi-digital instrument cluster with 7-inch TFT display, auto AC, auto headlamps, sunroof and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
