It consists of a Lithium-Ion battery pack which stores energy produced during braking, this energy is then used during idle start/stop which enhances the acceleration and performance and even increases the average as compared to petrol-only engines.

The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is one of the best selling hatchbacks in the nation. It offers good performance, sporty design, ample space in the cabin and loads of features. On the other hand, the Toyota Glanza is the rebagged version of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno which is based on the top-spec trim levels. It gets the same SHVS mild hybrid system which is only seen on one variant - G Hybrid. These hatchbacks are powered with a 1.2-litre VVT SHVS petrol engine that is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and it also gets a Lithium-Ion battery. The SHVS mild hybrid system increases fuel efficiency and also boosts the performance. Recently, Maruti Suzuki updated the Vitara Brezza with a facelift, with some changes to the cabin and it also gets updates on the features list. With this, Maruti Suzuki also introduced a petrol engine for the first time as the diesel engine has been discontinued due to the BS6 emission norms coming into place. Just like the Glanza, the Urban Cruiser is also a rebagged model but Toyota has offered some unique design elements as well. As the Urban Cruiser is based on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza it gets the same petrol and SHVS mild hybrid system with no signs of a diesel engine yet. The Vitara Brezza and the Urban Cruiser only get the mild-hybrid system on the automatic variants whereas the manual counterparts miss on it. These automatic variants are powered with a 1.5-litre K15B ISG petrol with the SHVS mild hybrid system and are matted to a 4-speed automatic torque converter gearbox. It gets an additional Lithium-Ion battery which stores the energy generated while braking which is then used to assist during idle start/stop conditions. The petrol-only variant gives out an average of 17.03 kmpl, whereas the variants with the SHVS offer a mileage of 18.76 kmpl.

For about 38 years, Toyota has been selling the Camry in the international markets. It is one of the most globally renowned sedans and in the Indian market it is retailed as an executive sedan. When Toyota first launched the Camry in India it used to be powered with a naturally aspirated petrol engine, with many transitions it is now powered with a hybrid engine. The current-gen Toyota Camry is powered with a 2487cc petrol hybrid engine which is matted to a Permanent Magnet Synchronous electric motor. This hybrid engine is coupled to a CVT automatic gearbox that gets paddle shifters and it puts out 218 bhp of power and 221 Nm of torque. The Permanent Magnet Synchronous electric motor is placed at the front axle and it is powered with a Nickel Metal Hydride, 245-volt battery which is placed under the floor pan.

This system helps the Hector to offer additional 20Nm of torque which assists the engine during idle start/stop and it also includes regenerative braking. The petrol variants are offered with an average of 14.16 kmpl, whereas the petrol+hybrid unit offers a mileage of 15.81 kmpl.
MG Hector Plus - Price Range: Rs 13.73 lakh - Rs 18.68 lakh Ex-Showroom, India
Some weeks ago, MG launched the Hector Plus in the Indian market which is based on the Hector. The MG Hector Plus is longer, more comfortable, gets a spacious cabin and it can accommodate 7 occupants. It is powered by a petrol+hybrid engine and a diesel engine which is also seen under the hood of the Hector. The petrol+hybrid model is powered with the same 1.5-litre turbo petrol unit with the 48V mild hybrid system. With the use of regenerative braking energy stored is used during idle start/stop and it also produces extra 20Nm of torque boost.
Mahindra Scorpio - Price Range: Rs 12.44 lakh - Rs 16.31 lakh Ex-Showroom, India
Just like Maruti Suzuki and MG Motors, even Mahindra offers a smart mild hybrid system. This can be seen under the hood of the Scorpio which is powered with a 2.2-litre diesel engine which gets the Intelli-Hybrid system. This mild-hybrid system from Mahindra uses the energy generated while braking which is then used during idle start/stop. The engine switches off automatically after 3 seconds of it being stationary and the electric power is used for acceleration.
