Car Comparison : ALTROZ vs BALENO vs GLANZA vs ELITE i20 vs POLO vs JAZZ

Altroz is the newest entrant in the busy segment of premium hatchbacks. Though it hasn’t been officially launched, all the details have surfaced and the test drives have also been taken. Being Tata Motor’s first premium hatchback offering, it surely has some USPs in comparison to the other cars here.
The Hatchback will be launched in January 2020 and the bookings are already underway. To understand how it fares with its competitors, a spec comparison is essential.

Among all the cars, Baleno and its rebadged sibling, Glanza are the longest while Jazz is the shortest. Coming to the width, Altroz is the clear winner, as are most of the Tata cars. On the other hand, Polo is the least spacious. Similar story for Polo in terms of height but the Honda Jazz takes the lead here. The ground clearance of Baleno and Elite i20 is more than its rivals by 5 mm. The Baleno and Glanza have the shortest turning radius whereas Elite i20 has the longest. Coming to the essential bootspace, the Honda Jazz is the clear winner while the Polo significantly lags behind. The Elite i20 is the heaviest of all while the Baleno and Glanza are the shortest.
PETROL ENGINES
Baleno and Polo offer a 1.0 litre petrol engine in addition to the 1.2 L petrol engine offered by each car in this segment. Tata Altroz will be offered with a 3 cylinder petrol engine.

The Volkswagen Polo in its GT TSI avatar is the most powerful. The torque figures are identical. The GT TSI comes with a 7 speed DSG while others offer CVT. Only the Altroz comes with a 5 speed manual transmission as standard.
DIESEL ENGINES
While all the premium hatchbacks have the option of diesel engine, the rebadged Baleno, i.e., Glanza is not offered with diesel engine.

Most powerful among all these cars is the Volkswagen Polo with its GT TDI engine followed by the Honda Jazz and the least powerful is the Maruti Baleno. In terms of torque output, the Polo leads the way. The Jazz clearly distinguishes itself from others by offering a 6 speed manual gearbox. None of the car offers an automatic or CVT.
