Recently there has been a lot of buzz going around the MG Gloster. It has been spied in its production spec avatar and it is expected to be launched soon in this festive season. As it is expected that MG will launch the Gloster in the price range similar to the KIA Carnival, we get to you a detailed spec comparison between both these cars and help you decide which is better, an SUV or MPV.

We start the spec comparison with the dimensions first and as MG Motors is developing the Gloster on a ladder frame chassis and being a full size SUV, it will measure 5005mm in length, 1932mm in width, 1875mm in height and it will get a wheelbase of 2950mm. With this, it will most likely compete with the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and the Mahindra Alturas G4. But when compared to the KIA Carnival, the Kia is shorter in height, however it is longer, wider and has a longer wheelbase.
Coming the exterior design, upfront the Gloster gets an octagonal grille that also gets chrome slates, LED headlamp unit with LED DRL’s, round chrome bezels around the fog lamps and for the muscular look it gets a sculpted bumper and hood. This SUV will run on dual tone alloy wheels, on the side it will feature bold shoulder creases and plastic cladding that offers the Gloster a bold and macho look. It will also get chrome door handles, chrome line running on the window line and roof rails. At the rear, it will get an LED tail light unit, the plastic cladding will run over the rear bumper giving it a dual tone look, it will feature the GLOSTER name in bold and it will be offered with dual exhaust tips as well.
Although the KIA Carnival is offered in a boxy design language, it sports clever styling elements. Upfront the MPV is offered with KIA’s signature tiger-nose grille offering a sporty and aggressive look. In addition to this, it gets a pulled back headlamp setup and a low slung bonnet. Moving to the side profile, it comes with roof rails, powered sliding rear doors that offer a large window and it runs on 18-inch crystal cut alloy wheels. At the rear, the Carnival gets a powered tailgate, LED tail lamps as well and it gets a rear skid plate.
As of now, not much details have been unveiled about the interiors of the Gloster. However, through some spy images we get to know that it will be offered with the best modern features and technology and it will get the option for captain seats in the middle row. Coming to the features, it will be equipped with a full digital instrument cluster, a panoramic sunroof and a10-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, which will be compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For utmost comfort, MG will be offering the Gloster with leather upholstery, tri-zone automatic climate control and iSMart suite, which will offer over 50 connectivity features. The cabin of the KIA Carnival meanwhile is one of the best places to be in. It offers ample room for the occupants and it comes loaded with the best creature comfort features. KIA offers this MPV in three configurations - seven, eight and nine seating seat layout.
For utmost comfort, the Carnival comes equipped with three zone climate control, heated and ventilated seats, 10 way adjustable power driver seat, a smart power tailgate and power sliding doors as well. The top of the line model gets leg support for the second row, premium wood garnish and an entertainment system for the rear seat.
In terms of features, it gets a smart air purifier with perfume diffuser, dual electric sunroof, wireless charging, a smart key, UVO application from which various actions can be commanded from the mobile and an eight-inch touchscreen infotainment unit which is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

MG Motors will be launching the Gloster with both petrol and diesel engine options. On the other hand, the KIA Carnival only comes powered with a diesel engine. The petrol model of the Gloster will be powered with a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that will be able to generate 220 bhp of power and 360 Nm of torque. This petrol engine will be coupled to a 6-speed manual transmission and it will get the option for 6-speed automatic transmission as well.

Coming to the diesel powertrain, MG Motors will be powering the Gloster with a 2.0 litre twin turbo unit, whereas the KIA Carnival comes powered with a 2.2 litre CRDi unit. In terms of performance both the oil burners compete very closely to each other. Still MG’s 2.0 litre twin turbo diesel unit produces more power and torque. However, when it comes to convenience, both the KIA Carnival and the MG Gloster get an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
It is expected that MG will be launching the Gloster with loads of safety features that includes autonomous parking, emergency stop and collision avoidance system. In addition to this, it will also get front and side airbags, adaptive cruise control, ABS with EBD, driver fatigue alert, electronic stability management and front collision warning system.
On the other hand, the KIA offers the Carnival with six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, corner brake control and stability control. In addition to this, the MPV also comes equipped with hill assist control, roll over mitigation and tyre pressure monitoring system.

KIA offers the Carnival at a price starting from Rs 30.30 lakh, which goes up to Rs 41.19 lakh (Ex-Showroom, India) and it also comes in different seating configurations as well. On the other hand, we are expecting MG to launch the Gloster between Rs 35 lakh to Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom, India.
Being a full size SUV, the MG Gloster will be offered with a powerful engine and it will be offered with a petrol engine that the KIA Carnival misses. On the other hand, KIA offers the Carnival with adequate power and torque, but it isn’t meant to drive hard or fast as compared to the Gloster. Whereas when it comes to ride quality and interior spaces, the Carnival is a step ahead. The suspension system on the MPV absorbs the bumps very well offering a comfortable ride and it comes loaded with many creature comfort features.
