In two days, two big SUVs have been launched in India and both are in the upper 4m SUV segment. Indian's are buying more SUVs at this price bracket between Rs 15-25 lakh is the segment which has cars like the Kia Seltos, Jeep Compass on one hand to the MG Hector and Tata Harrier on the other. However the newest entrants are the new Hyundai Creta and the Volkswagen T-Roc. Now we compare the top-end petrol turbo variants of the Creta with the T-Roc, which has one price and one engine.
Styling is very important as anyone spending Rs 20 lakh on these SUVs wants looks and these two deliver on that. The Creta is longer than the T-Roc while the T-Roc is wider and lower than the Creta. The Creta looks longer and bigger with more size while the T-Roc is more aggressive and sportier. There are LED headlamps and tail-lamps plus DRLs along with big wheels.
Inside both are different in terms of design and feel. The T-Roc feels smaller and has the German build quality as its USP since it is fully imported. The Creta has features and space as its strong point. In terms of design the Volkswagen is understated but classy while there is a bit of colour added to make the cabin stand out. The Creta has the ‘bigger’ look and has a more flamboyant design with the unique steering wheel and the gear lever along with the digital dials.
The Volkswagen feels heavier and more solid though. The Creta clearly has more space and added features as said earlier with a bigger touch-screen, ventilated seats, Bose audio, rear seat recline plus the connected technology. The Volkswagen also is not bad while having the dual-zone climate control, digital instruments, panoramic sunroof etc.
The Creta gives you three engine options while the Volkswagen has one. Here we will look at the Creta top of the line trim with the 1.4 turbo petrol which competes with the T-Roc which has a 1.5 turbo petrol. Also both have a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox with no manual option on offer. The Creta 1.4 turbo petrol makes 140 bhp and 242Nm while the T-Roc makes 150 bhp and 250Nm. Both are front wheel drive cars with various modes.
The Volkswagen is available in one trim with a price of Rs 19.99 lakh ex-showroom. The Creta with the fully loaded spec and the 1.4 turbo petrol is Rs 17.20 lakh. Both are turbo petrol SUVs with automatic gearboxes along with sophisticated dynamics plus a lot of features. The T-Roc is the sportier one with more power and is the one to buy for its looks plus power. The Creta is bigger, more spacious and has a lot more features and is for those who want a bit more space along with the above mentioned features. Choose what suits you!
