Kicks v/s Seltos Turbo

Nissan has just launched the Kicks facelift with a new BS6 line-up of petrol engines. Now the main talking point is the new turbo petrol which powers the Kicks as that engine has ties with the GT-R supercar. However with the Kicks finally getting a powerful turbo motor, how does it compare with the Seltos which also has a turbo petrol? We find out.
Yes we know there is also the new Hyundai Creta but we will not include it in this comparison since the turbo petrol in the Creta only comes with a DCT and no manual as here both the Seltos and Kicks have turbo petrol manual as well as automatic trims. For this comparo we take the Seltos and Kicks turbo petrol manual variants.
Kicks vs Seltos Specs
The Kicks has a 1.3l turbo petrol with 154 bhp and 254Nm of torque. The gearbox options are a 6-speed manual or a CVT automatic. Moving onto the Seltos and that has a 1.4l turbo petrol with 140 bhp and 242Nm. Just like the Kicks the Seltos can be had with a 6-speed manual though unlike the Kicks you get a DCT automatic in place of a CVT. In terms of mileage the Kicks turbo manual gets 15.8 kmpl while the Seltos gets 16.1 kmpl.
Kicks vs Seltos Interior and Space
The Kicks has a solid feeling interior with leather and good materials while the design is pretty good as well. However the Seltos interior looks much more futuristic with the bigger touchscreen and the interior looks airier, plus there is more space as well. The Kicks overall feels more tougher while the Seltos is more premium.
Kicks vs Seltos Features
Compare the entry-level turbo petrol variants and both offer good features for the price with basics covered more than well enough. Looking at the top-end petrol manual the Kicks XV Premium (O) and the Seltos GTK and X, the Seltos offers more equipment especially in the GTX with 6 airbags, wireless charging, air purifier, heads up display etc. The Kicks has leather seats, 360 degree camera, auto headlamps, 4 airbags etc.
Kicks vs Seltos Price
We are looking at turbo petrol manuals here first of all so the pricing is to be discussed likewise. The Kicks Turbo petrol manual starts at Rs 11.8 lakh while the top-end turbo manual is Rs 13.8 lakh. The Seltos GTK starts at Rs 13.7 lakh while the top-end Seltos GTX is Rs 15.2 lakh. The Kicks is cheaper and more powerful on paper but the Seltos has more space, features and being lighter will feel agile. It remains to be seen whether the Kicks can affect the Seltos in terms of market share!
