Although the New i20 is a premium hatchback it gives the compact sedans a tough competition. In terms of dimensions, all of the cars have a similar length of 3995mm. On the other hand, the New i20 is the widest (1775mm) and has the longest wheelbase (2580mm) of them all. Whereas the Dzire is the tallest (1515mm) of them all and the Amaze has the bigger boot space of 420 litres.
Hyundai offers the all-new i20 with much sharper and sportier design as compared to the Elite i20. It has been designed following Hyundai’s ‘Sensuous Sportiness’ design language. With this, the new i20 features wider 'cascading grille', new headlight units and new sleek looking DRL's. Also this premium hatchback gets a new tail light unit along with angular Z-shaped LED inserts.
The design of the Honda Amaze is inspired by its elder sibling, the Honda City. At the front the Amaze features a pair of angular headlamp units, it also gets a chrome strip on the front grille and it comes with a sporty design bumper. At the rear it is offered with a C-shaped tail lamp unit and a thick strip of chrome which runs across the boot.
With the New iteration of the Dzire, Maruti Suzuki showcases an elegant design language. It has been developed on the similar design language of the New Swift. Stepping inside the Amaze, the cabin feels very spacious and neatly designed dual-tone dashboard uplifts the interior. As the cabin gets light-coloured interiors and upholstery as compared to the all-black i20 cabin. The overall cabin has been inspired by the Honda City and it also gets a similar steering wheel. In terms of features, the Amaze is loaded with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, paddle shifters passive keyless entry with push-button engine start-stop and a revamped instrument cluster with MID as compared to its predecessor. For utmost comfort, it gets cruise control, automatic climate control and rear parking camera.
The cabin of the Dzire is based on the latest generation Swift, but it does come with many unique elements. It gets a different dashboard layout with dual-tone treatment and wooden finishing. The interior is very spacious offering good legroom at the rear and adequate headroom and knee room to make the cabin feel roomier. In terms, of features, the Dzire is equipped with automatic LED headlamps, auto-folding ORVMs, push-button engine start-stop, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, and a 4.2-inch multi-colour MID unit. For utmost comfort, it gets cruise control, automatic climate control and rear AC vents as well.

All of the cars in the competition are powered with 1.2-litre petrol engines, only the New i20 gets the option of 1.0-litre turbo petrol as well. The Amaze and the Dzire produce the same amount of power figures whereas the 1.2-litre petrol engine on the New i20 comes very close. The most powerful engine is 1.0-litre turbo unit under the hood of the New i20 and it is the only model with a Dual Clutch Transmission and it also gets an iMT gearbox as well. All of the cars get a 5-speed manual transmission as common, the Amaze and New i20 also get additional CVT units whereas the Dzire gets the option of an AMT unit.

Coming to diesel lineup, with the BS6 emission norms coming into place Maruti Suzuki has discontinued its diesel engines. On the other hand, the New i20 and the Amaze are powered with 1.5-litre diesel units. The power output is the same but the i20 has more torque. Honda offers the Amaze with a 5-speed manual transmission and a CVT gearbox whereas the i20 only gets a 6-speed manual gearbox.
When it comes to safety, all of the cars are loaded with the standard safety equipment like front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, seat belt reminder system, speed alert system and rear parking sensors. Maruti offers brake assist, electronic stability programme and hill hold control on the top-level models of the Dzire. On the other hand, Hyundai offers top-end i20 with 6 airbags, tyre pressure monitoring system, traction control, electronic stability programme and hill hold control.

Coming to the price tag, the Maruti Suzuki Dzire is the cheapest of them all with the price range starting from Rs 5.89 lakh to Rs 8.80 lakh. When compared to the Honda Amaze and the Maruti Suzuki Dzire it does miss out on a diesel engine and the modern technology, but it does come with adequate modern features, a fuel-efficient petrol engine and it offers affordable maintenance. On the other hand, the Honda Amaze sits between the newly launched i20 and the Dzire when it comes down to the pricing. Honda offers the Amaze with spacious interiors, fuel-efficient and reliable petrol and diesel engines and a smooth CVT transmission. Last but not the least, the New Hyundai i20 comes with a higher price tag on both the entry-level and top of the line models.
