Ford Territory Launches Soon - To Take on Harrier & Hector?
With the Ford Mahindra JV falling off the fate of the much awaited Ford C SUV seems to be in trouble. To recap it was a big crossover SUV that both Mahindra and Ford were said to be developing but with the JV called off that C-SUV based on the new generation XUV500 is not coming after all. A recent statement indicates that Ford will not go ahead with the new SUV co-developed with Mahindra after all. This also includes the EcoSport with a turbo petrol will also not be coming. Along with that a rumoured MPV with the help of the Marazzo would also be stopped.
With that while Mahindra will go alone and complete the launch of the new XUV500, the Ford SUV based on that will not be coming then. So, what next for Ford in India? Well, the future might seem bleak, but Ford might not give up on India after all and will stay afloat as an independent entity.
Of course they have not launched any new product in India for a long time and that is also affecting sales. With rivals coming in with new products, Ford needs new launches. One solution is the rumoured Ford Territory. The Territory is a midsize SUV sold in some other Asian markets and could be a perfect fit for the Indian market.
A rumour is going around that the Territory is coming to India within a few months. It is a big SUV and roughly the size of the Harrier or Hector. It has a length of 4580mm while it has a width of 1936mm along with a wheelbase of 2716mm. It is a big SUV and a good looking one at that. The design language is sharp and is based on the global Ford SUV design which makes it certainly a perfect SUV to be launched here.
On the inside the Territory is luxurious and comes across as very good looking. It is even better appointed than the Endeavour in terms of quality. It gets a 10-inch touchscreen, fully digital instrument cluster and a panoramic sunroof and a powered driver’s seat plus more. The long wheelbase also means it is spacious. In global markets the Territory is available with just one engine and that too, a 1.5l petrol while if launched it needs the Endeavour 2.0 diesel unit as well. We certainly hope this big SUV comes to India!
