Recently Hyundai launched the 2020 Creata in the Indian market and it has been offered with a much awaited design and mechanical update. In terms of dimensions the MG Hector leads the pack as it is the longest with 4655mm in length, it is also the tallest by 1760mm and it is also offered with the longest wheelbase measuring 2750mm. The Tata Harrier is the widest of them all as it measures 1894mm and just behind it is the MG Hector measuring a width of 1835mm. On the other hand, the Harrier follows the Hector in terms of length and height measuring 4598mm and 1706mm respectively. The Korean rivals and cousins, Kia Seltos and the all new Hyundai Creta have an identical wheelbase of 2610mm. Whereas in terms of length, width and height the Seltos is longer by 15mm, wider by 10mm and also taller by 10mm when compared to the Creta measuring 4300mm in length, 1790mm in width and 1635mm in height.
FEATURES
All of the SUV’s in the competition come loaded with most of basic modern equipment and features. The Harrier was behind in competition, but now with the BS VI model Tata has upgraded it with panoramic sunroof, auto dimming mirrors and larger wheels which is also seen on the MG Hector. The MG Hector does get a large touchscreen infotainment unit which is more practical along with voice commands and good connected car technology features. The Kia Seltos on the other hand, is the only model in the competition to miss out on the panoramic sunroof but does compensate with ventilated front seats, 360 degree camera, air purifier, wireless charging and Kia’s mood lighting system. Its close competitor, the all new Creta misses out on the 360 degree camera but it comes loaded with reclining rear seats, seat head cushions for the rear seats , a touch panel for the air purifier, a digital display and a more advanced connected car technology.

Both the 2020 Hyundai Creta and the Kia Seltos share the same engine options for both the petrol and diesel models. The petrol model is powered with two engine options - a 1.5 litre unit that generates 115 bhp of power and 144 Nm of twist, whereas the 1.4 litre turbocharged engine churns out 140 bhp of power and 242 Nm of torque. The 1.5 litre petrol mill comes matted with a 6 speed manual and CVT unit as option to choose from whereas the 1.4 litre turbo petrol mill gets an option for a 7 speed DCT as common and only the Seltos gets another option for a 6 speed manual. Coming to the diesel models, under the hood of both the SUV’s is a 1.5 litre oil burner producing 125 bhp of power and 250Nm of torque and they come matted with a 6 speed manual and six speed automatic as an option.
Among three four, the MG Hector is the only SUV that comes loaded with a mild-hybrid option (48V mild-hybrid system) that is paired with 1.5 litre turbocharged petrol engine and it makes out 143 bhp of power and 250Nm of twist. On the other hand, the diesel model of the Hector gets a 2.0 litre FCA MultiJet oil burner which is also seen under the hood of the Jeep Compass the Tata Harrier. Also the Tata Harrier is the only SUV from the lot to be powered with a diesel engine only. Hence the oil burner under the hood of the Tata Harrier and the MG Hector generates 173 bhp of power and 350 Nm of twist. The diesel unit on the Hector comes matted with a 6 speed manual and a DCT as an option, whereas Tata hass coupled the Harriers engine with 6 speed manual and 6 speed automatic gearbox that is sourced through Hyundai. With this, the diesel units under the hood of the Harrier and the Hector are the most powerful of the lot and it is also the largest and heaviest of them all.

Coming to top end trim levels, the 1.4 litre Turbo creta starts from Rs 16.16 lakh clearly beating the Seltos bearing a price tag of Rs 16.29 lakh. But the Seltos on the other hand offers more premium features justifying the price hike. The top most variants of the diesel automatic Creta comes at rs 17.20 lakh, whereas the Harrier bears a price tag of Rs 20.15 lakh. Also the highest spec Seltos is priced at Rs 17.29 lakh and the Hector which gets diesel manual is priced at Rs 17.28 lakh.
If you're out there looking for neat looks with a hint of premium features in the entry level segment the Kia Seltos should be your weapon of choice. When compared to its immediate rival the all new Creta, the Seltos is cheaper by Rs 10,000 in the entry level segment. On the other hand, the base model of the Hector (Petrol) is priced at Rs 12.73 lakh whereas the Harrier starts from Rs 13.69 lakh. It has to be noted here that Tata Motors only powers the Harrier with a diesel unit.
