Renault Kiger 1.0 AMT Sub-Compact SUV First Look review Mileage
Renault has launched the Kiger compact SUV and along with that, has given many buyers yet another SUV to buy. In the compact SUV segment the Nissan Magnite is the latest SUV but the Kiger joins in with more radical looks and features but carrying nearly the same pricing. However, one crucial difference between the Magnite and the Kiger is that unlike the Magnite the Kiger is also available with an AMT gearbox. Yes, the 1.0 Kiger has an AMT automatic which we would talk about here.
Kiger AMT specs
The Kiger 1.0 AMT petrol gets a three cylinder engine, the same one as the Tiber without a turbo of course. The engine is a small one at 999cc which makes only 70 bhp and 96Nm. The AMT is an Eazy-R AMT and gets a proper gearlever just like the Triber. The AMT gear box also gets a creep function while there is a manual mode as well. Just like all of the Kiger models you get a rotary drive mode function which is not there on the Magnite and the Triber too.
How will it drive?
The engine is not the most powerful and being the same one as in the Triber, the AMT version is expected to be slower than the manual in a bid to keep the shifts smoother. In the Triber AMT the AMT shift quality was better than the Kwid AMT. In the Kiger performance is expected to be tepid and the AMT would be best used as an everyday city SUV.
What would be the mileage?
AMT version is always expected to be thirstier over the manual and the same is expected for the Kiger AMT. In the city expect 10-12/13 while it all depends on the way how your driving style is calibrated. An AMT requires a light throttle input which gives a smooth drive and better mileage. That said the AMT version when paired with the 1.0 petrol might be more efficient in the city since the lack of torque requires more downshifts in the manual version.
Should I buy the AMT version over the manual?
The AMT starts at Rs 6.59 lakh and goes till Rs 8.17 lakh for the top-end. Between the manual and AMT the price difference is roughly Rs 45,000 which is not bad and makes buying the AMT a better option since it gives the convenience of getting an automatic. The 1.0 Kiger AMT is obviously not as powerful as the 1.0 turbo but for those on a budget, a fully loaded 1.0 AMT automatic might be all the compact SUV that one needs.
