Should you spend more on AMT or buy the Manual Triber? Which is best?
Renault recently launched the Triber with the much awaited AMT automatic gearbox. This was long expected from the French car-maker as ever since launch the Triber was always crying out for an automatic since MPVs require convenience.
Now that the AMT version has been launched, should you spend more for it or buy the manual Triber? Read our comparison below :
Engine and Gearbox
Manual Gearbox
The Renault Triber as you know is available with a petrol 1.0 engine only but the difference is between the gearbox of course. The Triber was first launched with the 5-speed manual while a 5-speed AMT is the latest addition. The engine might be small at 72 bhp and 96Nm but is sufficient for city use. The Triber manual also gets a 5-speed and in the city we would have to say it is light with the clutch and gearbox. However the place where the manual feels a bit more work is the city application. You see with 96Nm of torque available you have to use the gear constantly in the city with downshifts required. Now in the manual that is work.
AMT Gearbox
The same thing is a lot more easier with the AMT. With the AMT you drive it like any automatic as you do not need to shift and also do not feel the lack of torque. The AMT covers that aspect and makes driving the Triber a lot more relaxing. You also get a creep function plus you have the option of manually shifting also which means when you need the urgent power, using this makes more sense.
Which is more efficient?
The Triber manual gets 19 kmpl as an official figure but in real world it is also very efficient. We have got 20kmpl from the Triber manual ourselves. However, in the city expect 12-14 kmpl depending on your driving. The AMT Triber is less efficient and in the city we saw 10-11 kmpl which means it is slightly less efficient.
Which one to buy?
You cannot buy the Triber AMT in the base variant which the manual is available in but next level up you do get both the option of AMT and manual. Roughly the AMT Triber is around Rs 40,000 more expensive over the manual Triber. Is it worth it? Yes absolutely as the extra price brings in the automatic which makes the Triber a better car in the way it drives. It is easier to drive and makes it a better MPV. So our choice is the AMT Triber overall here.
