Tata Nexon is the first Indian car to achieve a 5-star rating at the Global NCAP crash test. Recently, Tata Motors has updated this compact SUV with a mid-cycle refresh making it look much modern and sportier. It now underpins the new ‘Impact 2.0’ design language from the Indian car manufacturer. Tata has also updated both the petrol and diesel mills to comply with the BS6 emission norms. The petrol model is powered with a 1.2-litre Revotron engine
producing 120 bhp of power and 170 Nm of twist. On the other hand, the diesel model is powered with a 1.5-litre Revotorq engine generating 110 bhp ofpower and 260Nm of torque. Both the engines come coupled to an optional 6-speed manual and 6-speed AMT gearbox.
With the launch of the Nexon EV, Tata Motor became the first manufacturer to introduce an electric compact SUV in the Indian market. With this, the Nexon EV is also the most affordable electric SUV on sale in the country. As it is based on the Nexon, it also underpins the new ‘Impact 2.0’ design language. Powering the Nexon EV is Tata’s Ziptron EV powertrain technology that features a 30.2kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor with a performance rating of 129 bhp of power and 245Nm of twist. The lithium-ion battery comes with an 8-year standard warranty and an IP67 waterproof battery pack and it offers a claimed range of 312km.

Tata has developed the Harrier on the Impact Design 2.0 philosophy and it has been offered with strong proportions and muscular design giving a lot of road presence. The overall looks are very much similar to the H5X concept model. With the latest updates, the Harrier is now offered with a sunroof and an automatic gearbox. Under the hood is a BS6 compliant 2.0-litre Kryotech diesel engine that produces 170 bhp of power and 350Nm of torque. It comes with the option of a 6-speed manual transmission and a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox. The Harrier misses out on a petrol engine, but the BS6 diesel engine is much more refined than the BS4 predecessor.

The Mahindra Bolero is one of the oldest SUV on sale and it is also one of the best sellers in the utility segment. New updates have been offered to the Bolero, but it still lacks the interior quality. Although it is very functional and practical thanks to its ease in maintenance and
repairs. Hence the Bolero is very much popular in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities in the nation. Mahindra now powers the Bolero with the BS6 compliant 1.5-litre mHawk75 diesel engine that puts out 75 bhp ofpower and 210 Nm of torque. This oil burner only comes mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

After the Bolero, the Scorpio is one of the most famous SUV’s to roll out from Mahindra’s stable. Over the years, it has received many overhauls and now in the BS6 avatar there are many revamps done as well. The Scorpio now comes available in four trim levels - S5, S7, S9 and S11. In addition to this, this SUV now only comes powered with a single powertrain option - a 2.2-litre, mHawk diesel engine producing 140 bhp of power and 320Nm of torque and it is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.

The Mahindra XUV 500 is famous for its big road presence and it has dominated well in the Indian market. With the latest updates on the XUV 500, it features the latest modern equipment and a BS6 complaint powerful diesel engine. With this, there are some revamps done as well, it misses out on a petrol engine, comes in 4 trim levels and it also misses out on the automatic transmission and the AWD system. Under the hood is a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel unit that churns out 155 bhp ofpower and 360Nm of twist. This oil burner now comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission only

The TUV 300 Plus is based on the TUV 300 and is the stretched-out version of the standard version. Earlier, Mahindra only sold the TUV 300 Plus in selected states in the nation, now the Indian car manufacturer has made it available pan-India. In the BS6 avatar, it is now available in 3 trim levels - P4, P6, P8 and it is powered with a 2.2 Litre mHAWKD120 Diesel Engine. This oil burner produces 120 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque and it is coupled to a 6-speed manual gearbox only.

The XUV 300 is the safest car available on sale in the country, it has scored 5-star safety rating at the Global NCAP and has surpassed the Tata Nexon. With the launch of the XUV 300, Mahindra has ticked out all the right boxes offering us a lot of modern equipment and premium features. Mahindra offers the XUV 300 with both petrol and diesel engine options
that are compatible with the BS6 emission norms. The petrol model is powered with a 1.2 Turbo Petrol mill that generates 109 bhp of power and 200 Nm of twist. On the other hand, the diesel models are powered by a 1.5 Turbo Diesel unit that puts out 115 bhp of power and 300 Nm of twist. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard across all the variants, but only the diesel engine gets an option for a 6-speed AMT unit.

At the 2020 Auto Expo, Force Motors showcased us the BS6 version of the Gurkha. Force Motors is offering the upcoming Gurkha with updated styling, with an updated grille, bumpers, LED treatment to the headlamps and the dual-tone paint job. The BS6 Force Gurkha will be powered with a 2.6-litre diesel unit that will produce 90 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque. This oil burner will be coupled to 5-speed manual gearbox that has a low range for off-roading duties. It is also expected to get the 2.2 litre diesel unit that was introduced last year.
