As Kia Motors unveiled the Sonet on the 7th of August 2020, a lot of buzz has been created around the upcoming compact SUV. On the first day of booking, the Sonet had a flying start with 6,253 registered bookings. As the launch date is nearing by, we at MYNEWCAR.in get to you the top 10 features to look out in the Kia Sonet including segment first features not seen in compact SUVs like Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and are seen in the higher segment SUVs like Seltos and Creta.
1. 1.0 litre Super Powerful Turbo Petrol Engine with DCT Auto
The Sonet will be available in two petrol engine options – a 1.2-litre four-cylinder unit and powerful 1.0 litre turbocharged T-GDI unit. This turbocharged 1.0 petrol engine will generate 120 bhp of power and 172 Nm of torque and it will be mated to 6-speed iMT (clutchless) and 7-speed DCT gearbox options. This DCT transmission works smoothly and the gear shifts are anticipated smartly without the feel of any jerks during upshift and downshift. Although it misses out on paddle shifters it gets three driving modes – Eco, Normal and Sport along with traction modes. The HTK+, HTX, HTX+ and the GTX+ variants of the Sonet will get the 6-speed iMT gearbox. Whereas the 7-speed DCT unit will be available in the HTK+ and GTX+ trim levels.
2. Diesel - 6-speed Automatic Transmission (Segment First)
Unlike the petrol engine, the diesel engine only gets the option of a 1.5 litre CRDi unit and it will be coupled to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. This is the same automatic transmission that is available on the Kia Seltos and the Hyundai Creta. The diesel engine with the 6-speed automatic gearbox produces 115bhp of power and 250Nm of torque which is a bit more powerful than its manual counterpart producing 100 bhp of power and 240Nm of torque. With this, the Sonet will be the first SUV in its segment to feature a 6-speed automatic torque converter gearbox.
3. 10.25-inch Touchscreen Infotainment Unit
In its segment, Kia Sonet comes equipped with the largest 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit that is also available on the Kia Seltos. This touchscreen infotainment unit is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and it also features a navigation system, driving and trip data along with USB, Bluetooth and Aux connectivity. In addition to this, it will also feature AI voice recognition.
4. Electric Sunroof
Kia Motors will be equipping the Sonet with an electric sunroof. This feature will be available from the HTX variant right up to the top trim levels.
5. Crown Jewel LED Headlights with DRL
Kia Motors has designed the Sonet on the ‘ Wild by Design ‘ theme and emphasizing on this design it gets a Crown Jewel full LED headlights. This unit gets projector-beam setup as standard for lighting across the variants in this segment. In addition to this, the headlight unit also features a ‘Heartbeat‘ LED Daytime Running Lights (DRL’s) which also integrates as the side indicator. According to Kia Motors, the whole shape of the LED headlights and DRL’s, has been taken inspiration from Indian influences.
6. Digital Instrument Cluster
The will feature a 4.2-inch digital instrument cluster panel which gives this compact SUV a sporty feel. In addition to this, the instrument cluster will be available with different colour options for you to choose from. Also, you will be able to access a host of features which will include features such as High Line Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Multi Drive Modes, and Grip Control.
7. Bose Music System
Kia Motors will be offering the Sonet with a premium audio system from Bose. This sound system will feature six speakers and one sub-woofer. Four speakers will be available on the front, while the two speakers will be placed at the rear and the subwoofer will be mounted in the boot. The Bose sound system will create good sound ambience and enhance the cabin further is the mood lighting feature. It will light up the cabin in a single theme or dynamic theme according to your preference.
8. Ventilated Seats
The cabin of the Kia Sonet has been designed in such a way that it will provide utmost comfort to the passengers. With this, it will feature a first in segment ventilated seats for the driver and co-passenger. These seats have a perforation which enables them to pass cold air through them which helps to keep the seats cool. In addition to this, the ventilated seats will also have the choice of three fan speeds.
9. Smart Air Purifier
To cope up with the need of the time, Kia Motors will be featuring the Sonet with the first in segment PM 2.5 Smart Air Purifier. An air purifier was first seen in the Seltos, whereas the Hyundai Creta just added a digital display. But with the Sonet, Kia Motors has taken a step higher as it gets virus protection technology. The air purifier can be controlled via the infotainment unit, while the occupants in the car can check the Air Quality Index (AQI) from a digital display that sits above the rear AC vents. This display can be turned off and on according to your requirements.
10. UVO Connectivity Technology
Just like the Hyundai Venue that comes loaded with BlueLink connectivity, the Kia Sonet will be equipped with UVO connectivity. This car connected technology will offer more than 50 features which will also include voice assist. These UVO connectivity features will be displayed on the infotainment unit and you will be able to access them with the help of a button on the IRVM. With the help of voice commands, some in-car functions can be operated that includes voice-activated window up and down function. In addition to this, the Sonet can be remotely started via the UVO system and with the help of a smartwatch that is integrated to the UVO system the climate control and the air purifier can be controlled.
