Latest 2020 Global NCAP Safety Rating of Indian Cars

At first, the list of the safest cars in the Indian market wasn’t that long, but it has surely seen a gradual increase. So we at MyNewCar have listed down the top cars that have scored 4 and 5 stars ratings at the Global NCAP crash tests.
Honda Amaze - Safety Rating: 4 Stars
The Amaze is now the entry-level model from Honda's stable in the Indian market. At the Global NCAP crash test, it achieved good results with overall 4-star safety ratings. For adult occupancy protection it scored 4 stars and for child occupancy protection it only scored 1 star. The model that was crash tested for the Global NCAP tests was loaded with safety features such as front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, front seat belt with pretensioners and reminders system.
Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza - Safety Rating: 4 Stars
As of now, the Vitara Brezza is the only car from Maruti Suzuki to achieve a 4-star safety rating. Thus making it one of the safest cars from the Indian manufacturer. For adult occupancy protection, it scored 12.51/17 points with a 4-star rating. But when it came to child occupancy protection it only managed to score 17.93/49 points with 2-star safety rating. The model crash-tested was loaded with safety features such as front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts and front seat belt pre-tensioners and reminder system.
Both the hatchback and the compact sedan from Tata Motors have been awarded a 4-star safety rating in the crash test conducted. The Tiago and Tigor have scored 12.52/17 points in adult occupancy protection with 4-stars, whereas in child occupancy protection they have managed to score 34.15/49 points with 3-Stars. It makes the Tata Tiago the most affordable Indian car to be offered with 4-star safety rating from Global NCAP.
Volkswagen Polo - Safety Rating: 4 Stars
The Volkswagen Polo that was tested back in 2014 lacked safety features such as ABS, ISOFIX child seat mounts and seat belt reminder system. Back then it managed to score 12.54/17 points in adult occupancy protection with 4-stars. On the other hand, it scored 29.1/49 points in child occupancy protection with 3-stars. The New Polo now comes with all the mandatory safety features and it will surely see an increase in points as well.
Mahindra Marazzo - Safety Rating: 4 Stars
The Mahindra Marazzo is the first made-in-India MPV to have scored a 4-star rating at the Global NCAP crash test. This MPV managed to score 12.85 / 17 points in adult occupancy protection with 4-stars. Whereas in child occupancy protection it scored 22.22/49 points with 2-stars. Standard safety features include front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, ISOFIX child seat mounts, seat belt pre-tensioners and seat belt reminder system.
Tata Nexon - Safety Rating: 5 Stars
The Nexon is the first Indian car to have achieved 5-stars at the Global NCAP crash test. At first, this compact SUV only managed to score 4-stars, but after the upgrades done to all the variants it scored 5-stars and it also passed the UN95 side-impact protection requirements. In adult occupancy protection it scored 16.06/17 points with 5-stars, on the other hand in child occupant protection it scored 25/49 points with 3-stars. Standard safety features include front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat-belt reminder system, Isofix child-seat mounts and speed alert system.
Tata Altroz - Safety Rating: 5 Stars
After the Tata Nexon, the Altroz is the second car from the Indian manufacturer to achieve 5-stars at the Global NCAP crash test. In adult occupancy protection, the Altroz has scored 16.13/17 points hence getting 5-stars. Whereas in child occupancy protection the hatchback has achieved 3-stars by scoring 29/49 points. With this, the Tata Altroz has been ranked as one of the safest hatchback tested by the Global NCAP. Standard safety features include front dual airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat-belt reminder system, ISOFIX child-seat mounts and speed alert system. The top variants come loaded with rear parking camera, height-adjustable seat belts on the front seat and fog lamps at the front and rear.
Mahindra XUV300 - Safety Rating: 5 Stars (India's Safest Car Under Rs 15 Lakh)
The Mahindra XUV 300 has beaten the Tata Nexon's record of being the safest car in India. At the Global NCAP crash test, Mahindra's compact SUV achieved 4-stars in adult occupancy protection by scoring 16.42/17 points. Whereas in child occupancy protection it also scored 4-stars by scoring 37.4/49 points. With this, the XUV300 won Global NCAP's first ever Safer Choice award. Mahindra offers the entry-level models with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, all-wheel disc brakes, ISOFIX child-seat mounts, rear parking sensors, speed alert system and seat-belt reminder system that are now mandatory. On the other hand, the higher-spec models come loaded with 7 airbags, front parking sensors, rear camera, fog lamps on the front and rear, electronic stability programme and a tyre pressure monitoring system.
