Volkswagen Taigun vs Kia Seltos vs Hyundai Creta COMPARE

Top Selling SUV Comparison - Upcoming 2021 Volkswagen Taigun vs KIA Seltos vs Hyundai Creta
Volkswagen is launching its made for India SUV called the Taigun around mid of next year. That gives us plenty of time to do a short spec comparison against its rivals. Now this segment of SUVs already has big competition. Lets see how the upcoming 2021 Taigun does on paper when compared to the popular SUVs between Rs 10 to 20 lakhs in India like Hyundai Creta and KIA Seltos.
DESIGN COMPARISON - TAIGUN VS SELTOS VS CRETA SUV
The Taigun is a typically understated Volkswagen design but it also looks good with a typical European look. However for India the Taigun has been worked with, to make it more appealing such as more chrome used in the grille and front bumper plus it has roof-rails and cladding along with 16inch alloys. The design is more safe though and not as radical as the Hyundai Creta or as sporty as the KIA Seltos. The Seltos and Creta are also at 4.3 metres plus whereas the Taigun is around 4.2 metres long. The Taigun does have more ground clearance at 205mm over the Creta and Seltos having 190mm. The rear of the Taigun though is well styled with a cool styling detail and a light bar connecting the tail-lamps. So while not as big as Seltos or Creta, the Taigun does look attractive.
INTERIOR AND SPACE COMPARISON - TAIGUN VS SELTOS VS CRETA SUV
Volkswagen will be making the Taigun as an attractive SUV with a funky design for the interior. While the interior design would be like the T-Roc there would be colour accents to make it more sporty and quality is something we can expect. The Creta and Seltos also offer high quality interiors with very good plastics and attention to detail so it would be a close match. The Creta has a more radical interior while the Seltos has more chromed buttons. While the Taigun has the longer wheelbase, having tried the car at the Auto Expo, we found the space to be same and comparable to the Creta and Seltos.
FEATURES, TECHNOLOGY AND SAFETY- TAIGUN VS SELTOS VS CRETA SUV
Competing with the Koreans here is tough but the Taigun will have the most features in a Volkswagen car. The Taigun has an 8 inch touch screen which though smaller than the Seltos/Creta with their 10.25 inch ones, is still good in size and features. Just like the Creta and Seltos, expect features like sunroof, digital instrument cluster, climate control, 6 airbags, connected tech. The Creta though has the bigger sunroof and ventilated seats while the Seltos has a heads up display and front sensors also. We also expect the Taigun to have traction control, stability control and more. On Safety front, we expect the Taigun SUV to do well with 4+ star safety rating as compared to 3 star safety rating achieved by Indian-spec Kia Seltos in the GNCAP crash test.
SPECS :ENGINE, TRANSMISSION COMPARISON - TAIGUN VS SELTOS VS CRETA SUV
Though not confirmed for the India market yet we do expect a range of options to come but in petrol only. Unlike the Creta or Seltos which also offer diesel plus automatic options, the Taigun would be petrol only. However the Taigun might offer not one but two turbo petrol including a 1.5 TSI with a DSG and a 1.0 TSI with a manual. The Creta and Seltos offer a 1.5l petrol as the base but a 1.4 turbo one with a DCT while also offering an iMT. So the Koreans do offer more choice here.
PRICE & LAUNCH - UPCOMING 2021 TAIGUN VS SELTOS VS CRETA SUV
Both the Hyundai Creta and the KIA Seltos occupy a large chunk of the market with a price between Rs 10-17 lakh and it would be interesting to see how Volkswagen prices the Taigun but we expect it to be priced cheaper at the start hence below Rs 10 lakh to Rs 17 lakh is what we can expect when the Taigun comes. On first impressions the Taigun seems to have enough including the solid german build quality and safety rating to take on the current SUV segment leaders but it will not be easy for sure.
