Hyundai Launches BS6 Elantra Diesel

Some days ago, Hyundai had announced new variants for the Elantra and with this, they had discontinued the entry-level base variant as seen on the predecessors. Along with this, the Korean automotive manufacturer had only launched the BS6 compliant Elantra with a petrol engine. Now, Hyundai has come up with a BS6 compliant diesel engine for the same.
New Diesel Powertrain
As seen on the predecessor, Hyundai no longer powers the Elantra with the 1.6-litre diesel unit which was a complaint to the BS4 emission norms. Now, the 2020 Hyundai Elantra gets 1.5-litre diesel unit under its hood and it is paired to a 6-speed manual and an optional 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission. The 1.5-litre diesel mill is capable of churning out 115 bhp of power at 4,000 rpm and 250 Nm of twist. This is the similar oil burner that powers the Hyundai Creta as well.
Variants and Price
With the launch of the BS6 Diesel powertrain, now the Elantra will be available in 5 different variants- 3 petrol engine options and 2 diesel engine options (2.0 SX MT, 2.0 SX AT, 1.5 SX MT, 2.0 SX (O) AT and 1.5 SX (O) AT). The entry-level petrol and diesel engines will come equipped with a manual transmission whereas the other variants are offered with an automatic gearbox. The base variant is now priced at Rs 18.7 lakh Ex-showroom, whereas the top of the line variant is priced at Rs 20.65 lakhs Ex-showroom.
Design and Aesthetics
As Hyundai has just launched the BS6 Elantra diesel, most of the changes are only restricted under the hood. There aren’t any changes offered in terms of aesthetics and design. The Elantra continues to be offered with a sharp-looking front end design along with modern aesthetics.
Features and Equipment
Hyundai offers the Elantra with many first in segment features that help it to dominate when competing with its competitors in the Indian market. It comes equipped with Hyundai’s BlueLink car connected technology, a wireless phone charger, ventilated seats and Dynamic LED projector headlamps along with LED DRLs
With this, the Hyundai Elantra now gives the Honda Civic a run for its money in the Indian market. The Korean car manufacturer is also offering 3 years or 30,000 km complimentary maintenance along with 3 years of roadside assistance and even a 3-year BlueLink connected service subscription.
