One of the biggest stars of the Auto Expo was the Suzuki Jimny and we can more or less confirm that it is indeed coming to India! Yes, the Suzuki Jimny will be coming to India around next year when production of this car will start.
The Jimny got a fantastic response at the Auto Expo and that made Maruti change its plans to not bring it here. The Jimny is not just another SUV as it is a completely new product which features a ladder frame chassis-something which hardcore SUVs like the Toyota Fortuner have.
What this means is that the Jimny will be a hardcore off-roader with low-range and four wheel drive as standard.
For India what will be different is that the Jimny would be available in both 3 and 5 door forms. The 5-door version is worked for India being a more practical option and that means its wheelbase would be extended.
Else the Jimny will have a bit more features and maybe a different interior colour scheme. We also expect a good amount of features to be offered. In terms of engines there would be no diesel as instead it will have the 1.5l petrol which is found on the other cars with both a manual along with a 4-speed automatic also.
We expect the Jimny to be sold alongside the Ciaz, Baleno, Ignis and S-Cross via the NEXA sales channel with the top-end being Rs 13-14 lakh. The starting price could be 9.9 lakh. While the Jimny maybe small in size, the looks plus appeal will mean Maruti will sell a lot!
