Tata Motors had previously launched the Tigor EV for the Government, further after some months they had announced that they will be selling these models for the fleet owners as well. Now, the Indian car manufacturer has announced that they are introducing the Tigor EV for all consumers. With this, Tata Motors will be launching this electric sedan in 30 cities and the pricing will start from Rs.9.44 lakh (Ex-Showroom, Delhi). The amount mentioned is after deducting the government subsidiary for electric vehicles. In all Tata Motors will be introducing the Tigor EV for fleet as well as consumers in three variants- XE+, XM+ and ZT+.
With this, the Tata Tigor EV qualifies for FAME II incentives and can be redeemed by eligible commercial customers. On the other hand, the new and updated version of the Tigor EV gets extended driving range in which on a single charge this electric sedan can now travel upto 213km. When compared this driving range to the previous model that were sold to the fleet consumers it has a range extending till 71km. According to Ashish Share, the Head of Sales and Marketing and Consumer Services- Electric Vehicle Business for Tata Motors said that, "This new version builds on the success of the award winning Tigor EV, which is already deployed with several fleets and Government customers. This launch reinforces our commitment towards sustainable mobility solutions in India."
Exterior and Design
the Tigor EV gets the signature Electric Vehicle decals on side profile as well as on the front grille, this gives it a more premium look. This EV will be available in different colour schemes for the customers to choose from- Pearlescent white, Egyptian blue and Roman silver. In addition to this, the Indian manufacturer has updated the Tigor EV with a new design alloy wheels, a shark-fin antenna on the roof and a high mounted LED stop light at the rear.
Moving inside the cabin, we can see that there are some changes to be offered. The overall design is pretty much similar to the standard fossil fuel powered Tigor. But the Tigor EV gets black and grey interior schemes giving it a plush and upmarket fit and feel. Although this electric vehicle just gets fabric seats but it does get height adjustable function.
Moving to the powertrain, as speculated before, Tata will not be introducing the Ziptron electric powertrain for the Tigor EV, but instead it will be first made available on the Nexon EV. The Tigor EV's motor will be powered by a 21.5 kWh battery pack. As of now, Tata Motors hasn't revealed the power figured yet.
In terms of safety, except for the XE+ variant, all other models will be equipped with front dual airbags. Where in the former will be available with a driver side airbag only. In addition to this, Tata Motors has introduced ABS as standard for all variants.
With the introduction of the Tata Tigor EV in the Indian market, we finally see a close competitor for the Mahindra E2O. To enhance this competition further, Tata Motors is also offering a 3 years or 1.25 lakh kilometer warranty (whichever is earlier) for the Tigor EV.
